DIY Mascara Recipe
Creating homemade mascara can be fun and rewarding, ensuring you use natural ingredients on your eyelashes. Here’s a simple recipe for DIY mascara:
Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon Beeswax: Provides a natural, thickening base.
- 2 teaspoons Coconut Oil: Moisturizes and helps the mascara spread smoothly.
- 2 teaspoons Aloe Vera Gel: Adds moisture and conditions the lashes.
- 1-2 capsules Activated Charcoal: Provides black color. Adjust for desired darkness.
- 1-2 drops Vitamin E Oil (optional): Acts as a preservative and nourishes lashes.
Instructions:
- Melt the Beeswax:
- In a double boiler, melt the beeswax over low heat.
- Add Coconut Oil:
- Once the beeswax is melted, add the coconut oil and stir until fully combined.
- Mix in Aloe Vera Gel:
- Remove from heat and stir in the aloe vera gel until smooth.
- Add Activated Charcoal:
- Carefully open the activated charcoal capsules and add the contents. Stir well to combine. Adjust the charcoal for desired darkness.
- Add Vitamin E Oil (optional):
- If using, add 1-2 drops of vitamin E oil and stir well. This helps preserve the mascara and conditions lashes.
- Cool and Transfer:
- Allow the mixture to cool slightly but not solidify.
- Transfer the mixture into a clean, empty mascara tube using a small funnel or a plastic bag with the corner cut off.
Usage:
- Application: Use a clean mascara wand to apply the mascara to your lashes as you would with any store-bought mascara.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Use within 2-3 months as it lacks commercial preservatives.
Additional Tips:
- Hygiene: Ensure all tools and containers are thoroughly cleaned and sterilized before use to prevent contamination.
- Consistency Adjustments: If too thick, add more aloe vera gel or coconut oil. If too thin, melt and add more beeswax.
- Patch Test: Before applying to your eyelashes, do a patch test on a small area of your skin to ensure no allergic reactions.
This natural mascara can enhance your lashes without synthetic chemicals, making it ideal for those with sensitive eyes or who prefer natural beauty products.
