Cold Process Shampoo Bar for Normal to Oily Hair
Oils (1,000 g Total)
– Olive Oil – 400 g (40%)
– Coconut Oil – 300 g (30%)
– Shea Butter – 150 g (15%)
– Castor Oil – 100 g (10%)
– Sweet Almond Oil – 50 g (5%)
Lye Solution
– Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) – 157.60
– Distilled Water – 330 g
Optional Additives (at Light Trace)
– Kaolin Clay – 20 g
– Activated Charcoal – 10 g (optional)
– Rosemary Essential Oil – 20–30 g
– Tea Tree Essential Oil – 10–20 g
– Sodium Lactate – 10 g (add to the cooled lye solution)
Method
1. Prepare the lye solution and allow it to cool to approximately 35–40°C.
2. Melt the coconut oil and shea butter, then add the remaining oils.
3. When the oils and lye solution are at a similar temperature (35–40°C), blend to a light trace.
4. Add the optional ingredients and mix well.
5. Pour into your mould and insulate lightly.
6. Leave for 24 hours, then unmould and cut into bars.
7. Cure for 6 weeks before using.
Tip: Hair may take 2–4 weeks to adjust to a natural shampoo bar. If your hair feels waxy during the transition, rinse with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed into 500 ml of water after shampooing.
