Shower Steamer Recipe

Makes approximately 6–8 shower steamers, depending on mould size

Ingredients

• 320 g Sodium Bicarbonate
• 160 g Citric Acid
• 20 g Cornstarch
• 10 g Kaolin Clay – optional
• 5–10 g Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil blend, or according to the supplier’s recommended usage rate
• Witch Hazel or 70% Isopropyl Alcohol – in a fine mist spray bottle

Method

1. Sift the sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, cornstarch and kaolin clay into a large, completely dry bowl.
2. Mix thoroughly until evenly combined.
3. Add the fragrance oil or essential oil and mix very well.
4. Lightly mist with witch hazel or 70% isopropyl alcohol while continuously mixing.
5. Only add enough liquid for the mixture to hold together when firmly squeezed. Do not make the mixture wet, as this will activate the fizzing reaction.
6. Firmly press the mixture into silicone moulds.
7. Leave the steamers in the moulds to dry for 24–48 hours.
8. Carefully remove from the moulds and allow them to dry completely if necessary.
9. Store immediately in an airtight container away from moisture and humidity.

How to Use

Place one shower steamer on the shower floor where it receives a small amount of water or splash, but is not directly under the shower stream.

The steamer will slowly fizz and release the fragrance or essential oils into the shower steam.

Important: Shower steamers are intended for shower use only. Do not use them as bath bombs or apply them directly to the skin. Keep away from eyes and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
