Preparing the 20% Citric Acid Solution
Mix:
- 20 g Citric Acid
- 80 g Distilled Water
Mix until completely dissolved.
You will have 100 g of 20% citric acid solution.
Store the unused solution in a clean, labelled container.
Method
- Sanitise all equipment, utensils and your mixing container.
- Add approximately 550–600 g of distilled water to the mixing container. Reserve the remaining water for final adjustment.
- Add the glycerine and mix gently.
- Add the Hydrolysed Wheat Protein and mix until evenly dispersed.
- Slowly add the Lamesoft PO 65 and mix gently.
- Add the Lauryl Glucoside slowly, stirring gently to minimise foaming.
- Add the Coco Glucoside and mix gently until the mixture is uniform.
- If using fragrance, add it and mix thoroughly. For facial use, a fragrance-free version is recommended.
- Add the Euxyl PE 9010 and mix well.
- Measure the pH.
- Add the 20% Citric Acid Solution slowly and in small increments, mixing well between additions.
- Continue adding the citric acid solution until the finished product reaches pH 5.0–5.5.
- Add the remaining distilled water as required to bring the finished batch to exactly 1,000 g.
- Mix gently without incorporating excessive air.
- Allow the cleanser to stand for 12–24 hours to allow the foam to settle and the viscosity to develop.
- Check the pH again and make a final adjustment if necessary.
- Fill into clean, sanitised bottles.

Formulation Notes
Lamesoft PO 65 is Coco-Glucoside (and) Glyceryl Oleate. It is used in cleansing formulations to help enhance the skin’s lipid layer, improve mildness and contribute to viscosity.
Euxyl PE 9010 contains Phenoxyethanol (and) Ethylhexylglycerin and is recommended at 0.5–1.0%. The 8 g used in this 1,000 g formulation equals 0.8%.
For facial use, the fragrance-free version is preferable, particularly for sensitive skin.
This is a glucoside-based cleanser, not traditional soap. The finished pH should be maintained around 5.0–5.5.
Safety & Testing
