Flu Relief Shower Steamers Recipe

Flu Relief Shower Steamers Recipe

Makes approximately 10–12 shower steamers

Ingredients:

  • 200g Bicarbonate of Soda (Baking Soda)
  • 100g Citric Acid
  • 50g Cornflour (Cornstarch)
  • 10g Kaolin Clay (optional – improves hardness)
  • 1–2g Menthol Crystals (optional)
  • 20 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
  • 15 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
  • 10 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
  • 10 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • Witch Hazel or 70% Isopropyl Alcohol in a spray bottle (as needed)

Method:

  1. Mix together the bicarbonate of soda, citric acid, cornflour and kaolin clay until evenly combined.
  2. If using menthol crystals, crush them finely and dissolve them into the essential oils.
  3. Add the essential oil blend to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  4. Lightly spritz with witch hazel or alcohol while mixing until the mixture resembles damp sand and holds together when squeezed. Avoid over-spraying as this can activate the reaction too early.
  5. Pack firmly into silicone moulds.
  6. Allow to dry for 24–48 hours before removing from moulds.
  7. Store in an airtight container away from moisture.

How to Use:
Place one shower steamer on the shower floor away from the direct stream of water but where splashes can activate it. As it dissolves, the steam releases the aroma into the shower.

Important Information:

  • Shower steamers are intended for shower use only and should not be used directly on the skin.
  • These steamers are designed to provide an aromatic shower experience and are not intended to treat or cure flu symptoms.
  • Use caution around children, during pregnancy, and for those sensitive to menthol or strong essential oils.
  • Keep away from eyes and face during use.
