50 ML SOY VOTIVE CONTAINER CANDLE RECIPE
A simple soy wax votive candle recipe using no additives.
INGREDIENTS
42 g Soy Container Wax
3.4 g Candle Fragrance Oil
Total: approximately 45.4 g
Fragrance Load: 8%
The exact amount required may vary slightly depending on the shape and internal capacity of your 50 ml container. Always weigh the exact amount required for your container before making larger quantities.
EQUIPMENT
• 50 ml heat-safe candle container – https://funwithsoap.co.za/product/amber-votive-glass-jar/
- Suitable candle wick • Wick sustainer • Wick sticker • Wick-centering tool • Digital scale • Wax melting pot or double boiler • Thermometer • Heat-resistant pouring jug • Stirring utensil • Wick trimmer or scissors
METHOD
1. PREPARE THE CONTAINER
Make sure your container is clean, completely dry and suitable for candle making.
Attach the wick securely to the centre of the bottom of the container using a wick sticker.
Place a wick-centering tool over the container to keep the wick straight and centred.
2. WEIGH THE WAX
Weigh 42 g of soy container wax.
Place the wax into your melting pot.
3. MELT THE WAX
Gently melt the soy wax according to the manufacturer’s recommended melting temperature.
Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature and avoid unnecessarily overheating the wax.
4. ADD THE FRAGRANCE
When the wax reaches the recommended fragrance-addition temperature for your particular soy wax, add:
3.4 g Candle Fragrance Oil
Stir gently and thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes to ensure the fragrance is evenly incorporated.
Do not stir vigorously, as this can introduce air bubbles.
5. POUR
Allow the fragranced wax to cool to the recommended pouring temperature for your particular soy wax.
Slowly pour the wax into the prepared 50 ml container.
Leave a small amount of headspace at the top of the container.
Do not move the candle while it is cooling.
6. ALLOW TO COOL
Leave the candle on a flat, stable surface at room temperature.
Allow it to cool naturally and completely.
Do not place the candle in a refrigerator or freezer to speed up cooling.
7. TRIM THE WICK
Once the candle has completely hardened, remove the wick-centering tool.
Trim the wick to approximately 5–6 mm.
8. CURE
Allow the candle to cure according to the recommendations for your particular soy wax and fragrance oil.
Always complete a burn test before selling or giving the candle to customers.
BURN TESTING
Always test your candle before selling it.
Check:
• Flame height • Flame stability • Melt pool • Sooting • Wick mushrooming • Tunnelling • Container temperature • Overall burning performance
If the flame becomes excessively large or the container becomes excessively hot, extinguish the candle and reassess the wick size.
CANDLE SAFETY
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Keep candles away from children, pets, curtains and other flammable materials.
Always place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
Trim the wick before each burn.
Do not burn the candle for excessively long periods.
Discontinue use when only approximately 10–15 mm of wax remains in the container.
Never burn a candle in a cracked, damaged or unsuitable container.
