Creating a basic lip balm base is a great starting point for making your own custom lip balms.
Note: You can change this recipe by substituting the white petroleum jelly with shea butter and increase the beeswax. The beeswax acts as a hardener so depending on climate and if you want a hard lip balm you can change the amounts. Also, if you are on a tight budget you can use plain white petroleum jelly.
250 g white petroleum jelly
50 g beeswax beads
100 g shea butter
100 g Cocoa butter
Optional – Add oil soluble dye to colour, add lustre powder for a shimmer look. Add lip balm flavouring oil for a nice taste.
Melt the beeswax and butters and petroleum jelly in a stainless steel pot gently over the stove top (not in the microwave) Add the colourant and flavour. Stir well. Pour into lip balm containers. This recipe will yield approximately 50 x 10 ml lip balms.
Ensure that your working environment is clean and hygienic.
