Basic Soapmaking Instructions
While wearing safety goggles and neoprene gloves, combine solid lye and liquid, and stir well. Set aside and allow to cool to 43 Degrees Celcius. This is best done outside while you are standing upwind.
Combine oils and heat gently. Once the fats and oils are melted allow the temperature to drop to 43 degrees Celcius.
Combine lye solution and melted oils. Be careful not to splash while combining the mixtures. Stir until the mixture traces. If tracing takes more than 15 minutes, which it often does, stir for the first 15 minutes, then stir for 5 minutes at 15-minute intervals until your batter becomes slightly thickened. Tracing looks like a slightly thickened custard, not instant pudding but a cooked custard. It will support a drop or your stir marks for several seconds. Once tracing occurs add the Eucalypts oil and stir in lightly. Split your batter in 3 equal parts into jugs. In a small container add the charcoal and mix with a bit of sweet almond oil to get to a paste and mix until incorporated. In a separate container, mix turmeric powder and sweet almond oil so that it is a paste. In your 2 jugs of batter pour the charcoal mixture and blend quickly with a stick blender. Be sure that the batter does not beoome too thick. In the other jug pour in the Turmeric mix and blend briefly. In your loaf mould pour layers of your 3 batters as you wish. Leave the soap in the mould for 2 weeks opened. After 2 weeks, remove the soap from the mould and cut into slices. Allow the soap to cure open aired for 4 weeks.
Cut soap into bars and set the bars out to cure and dry. This will allow the bar to firm and finish saponification. Place the bars on something that will allow them to breathe..
