Acne Face Cream Recipe
Batch size: 100 g
Ingredients
Distilled water – 82 g
Glycerine – 3 g
Emulsifying wax NF – 5 g
Jojoba oil – 5 g
Niacinamide – 4 g
Euxyl PE 9010 preservative – 1 g
Citric acid solution – as needed to lower pH
Sodium hydroxide solution – as needed to raise pH
Method
1\. Sanitise all utensils, equipment and containers before starting
2\. Mix the glycerine with the distilled water, reserving a small amount of water to dissolve the niacinamide
3\. In a separate heat-resistant beaker, combine the emulsifying wax and jojoba oil
4\. Heat both phases separately to approximately 70–75°C until the emulsifying wax has melted completely
5\. Slowly combine the oil phase with the water phase, mixing until a uniform cream forms
6\. Continue stirring gently while the cream cools
7\. Dissolve the niacinamide in the reserved distilled water and add it during cool-down, following the supplier’s temperature guidance
8\. Add Euxyl PE 9010 according to the manufacturer’s instructions
9\. Measure the pH using a calibrated pH meter
pH Adjustment Suggestions
Target pH: Approximately 5.5, subject to the specifications of your ingredients and preservative
To lower pH
Prepare a 10 g citric acid solution by dissolving 1 g citric acid in 9 g distilled water. Add a few drops at a time, mix thoroughly and remeasure the pH
To raise pH
Prepare a 10 g sodium hydroxide solution by carefully adding 1 g sodium hydroxide to 9 g distilled water. Always add sodium hydroxide to water, never water to solid sodium hydroxide. Wear suitable protective equipment because sodium hydroxide is corrosive. Add a few drops at a time, mix thoroughly and remeasure
Do not add a predetermined amount of either solution. The amount required depends on the measured pH of your batch
Important Notes
Include the water used for pH-adjusting solutions in the original water allowance to maintain a final batch weight of 100 g
Use distilled water and sanitised equipment
Check the preservative manufacturer’s recommended use level and pH compatibility
Conduct stability and preservative efficacy testing before selling the cream
This is a moisturiser for acne-prone skin, not a clinically proven acne treatment
