Ingredients
- 200 g white melt and pour soap base
- 35 g cornflour / cornstarch
- 5 g glycerine
- 5–8 g soap-safe fragrance oil
- Soap-safe mica or colourant as desired
Method
- Cut the melt and pour soap base into small cubes.
- Melt gently in the microwave using short bursts, or melt over a double boiler.
- Allow the melted soap to cool slightly for a minute or two.
- Add the cornflour / cornstarch a little at a time, stirring well after each addition.
- Add the glycerine and stir well.
- Add your fragrance oil and colour.
- Leave the mixture to cool until it starts thickening.
- Use a hand mixer or whisk to whip it until it becomes light, fluffy, and pipeable like frosting.
- Spoon into a piping bag fitted with a nozzle and pipe onto soap cupcakes or soap bars.
- Leave to set completely before packaging or handling.
Tips for Success
- If the mixture is too runny, let it cool a little longer and whip again.
- If it is still too soft, add a little more cornflour / cornstarch.
- If it becomes too thick, warm it very slightly for a few seconds and stir again.
- White melt and pour soap base gives the best frosting look.
This frosting is ideal for decorative soap cupcakes, loaf tops, and novelty soaps, and is a great option for anyone who wants a simple soap frosting without using lye.
