Stinging Nettle Muscle Massage Balm
A nourishing herbal massage balm designed for massaging sore, tired muscles and areas of muscle tension.
Ingredients
- Stinging nettle-infused oil – 35%
- Jojoba oil – 29%
- Shea butter – 15%
- Coconut oil – 10%
- Beeswax – 10.5%
- Vitamin E – 0.5%
Total: 100%
Method
- Weigh the beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil into a heat-resistant beaker.
- Heat gently in a double boiler until all the ingredients have melted completely.
- Add the jojoba oil and stinging nettle-infused oil. Stir thoroughly until evenly combined.
- Allow the mixture to cool to approximately 40°C or below.
- Add the vitamin E and mix well.
- Pour into clean, completely dry balm tins or jars while the mixture is still pourable.
- Leave undisturbed until fully cooled and set before closing the containers.
Directions for Use
Apply a small amount to intact skin and massage gently into the desired area. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. Do not apply to broken or irritated skin. Discontinue use if irritation develops.
Storage
Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep water out of the product.
Important Notes
- Use only stinging nettle-infused oil suitable for topical cosmetic use, following the supplier’s specifications.
- Vitamin E helps slow the oxidation of oils but is not a preservative.
- Test on a small area of skin before wider use.
- Assess the finished product’s stability, texture and skin tolerance before assigning a shelf life or selling it.
- This is a herbal massage balm. The effectiveness of topical stinging nettle for muscle pain has not been firmly established.
