What Is a Reed Diffuser?
A reed diffuser is a flameless home fragrance made from a liquid base and fragrance or essential oils. The liquid travels up reeds and gently scents a room.
Equipment Needed

Measuring jug or syringe (ml markings)

Glass diffuser bottle (100–200 ml, narrow neck works best)

Wooden or rattan reeds (6–10)

Funnel (optional)

Stirring stick or spoon

Gloves (recommended)
Ingredients Explained
1. Diffuser Base (Solvent)
Options:

Isopropyl Myristate (IPM) (lighter scent throw)

DPG (Dipropylene Glycol) – slower evaporation
2. Fragrance or Essential Oils

Use fragrance oils for stronger scent throw

3. Optional Additive

Solubiliser (Polysorbate 20) – only needed if oils don’t blend well

Alcohol (Perfumers alcohol or ethanol) – improves scent throw (optional)
Basic Diffuser Formula (100 ml)

Diffuser base: 80 ml

Fragrance or essential oil: 20 ml
(20% is ideal for strong scent throw)
Ratio: 80 : 20
Step-by-Step Method

Measure the diffuser base into a jug.

Add fragrance or essential oil.

Stir gently for 1–2 minutes until fully blended.

Pour into the diffuser bottle.

Insert reeds.

Allow 24 hours for reeds to absorb fragrance.

Flip reeds after 24 hours for stronger scent.
