Moisturising Body Wash Recipe

Ingredients

Distilled Water q.s. to 100% q.s. to 1000g
Glycerine 5.0% 50g
Clear Xanthan Gum (Optional) 0.3% 3g
SLES 28% 25.0% 250g
Cocamidopropyl Betaine 18.0% 180g
Coco Glucoside 5.0% 50g
Lamesoft® PO 65 2.0% 20g
Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) 1.0% 10g
Hydrolysed Wheat Protein 1.0% 10g
Euxyl® PE 9010 1.0% 10g
Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil 0.3–0.5% 3–5g
Sodium Chloride (Salt) q.s. As required
20% Citric Acid Solution q.s. To adjust pH

Method

  1. Premix the glycerine and xanthan gum (if using) until a smooth slurry forms.
  2. Slowly add the distilled water while stirring until the xanthan gum is fully hydrated.
  3. Add the SLES 28% slowly, stirring gently to minimise foam.
  4. Add the Cocamidopropyl Betaine and mix until uniform.
  5. Add the Coco Glucoside and stir gently.
  6. Add the Lamesoft® PO 65 and mix until completely incorporated.
  7. Allow the mixture to cool to below 40°C.
  8. Add the Panthenol, Hydrolysed Wheat Protein, Euxyl® PE 9010 and fragrance. Mix thoroughly.
  9. Check the pH and adjust to 5.2–5.5 using a 20% citric acid solution.
  10. Slowly add sodium chloride a little at a time, mixing well after each addition, until the desired viscosity is reached.
  11. Top up with distilled water if necessary to bring the batch to 1000g.
  12. Allow the body wash to stand for 12–24 hours before bottling to allow trapped air bubbles to dissipate.

  • Rich, creamy lather
  • Gentle cleansing
  • Moisturising and conditioning
  • Suitable for normal and dry skin
  • Skin-friendly pH of 5.2–5.5

Optional Additives

Replace an equal amount of water with one or more of the following:

  • Aloe Vera Liquid – 2–5%
  • Niacinamide – 2–4%
  • Sodium PCA – 1–2%
  • Allantoin – 0.2–0.5%
  • Botanical Extracts (Chamomile, Calendula, Green Tea, etc.) – 1–2%
