Shaving Syndet Bar Recipe
Creamy Lather | Good Razor Slip | Firm Bar
This shaving syndet bar is formulated to provide a rich, creamy lather with excellent glide for shaving while remaining gentle on the skin. The combination of surfactants, stearic acid, and conditioning ingredients helps create a firm bar with stable foam and reduced crumbling.
Ingredients (1000g Batch)
Phase A – Surfactants
- SCI Powder – 420g (42%)
- SLSA – 120g (12%)
- Cocamidopropyl Betaine – 100g (10%)
Phase B – Structure & Performance
- Stearic Acid – 170g (17%)
- Cetyl Alcohol – 50g (5%)
- Kaolin Clay – 30g (3%)
- Tapioca Starch or Cornstarch – 20g (2%)
- Shea Butter – 30g (3%)
Phase C – Additives
- Glycerine – 20g (2%)
- Panthenol – 10g (1%)
- Preservative – 10g (1%) (recommended)
- Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil – 10g (1%)
- Distilled Water – 10g (1%) (optional, if required for consistency)

Equipment Required
- Digital scale
- Heat-safe bowls
- Spatula or mixing spoon
- Double boiler or hot plate
- Face mask
- Gloves
- Moulds
Method
- Wear gloves, eye protection, and a face mask when handling powdered surfactants.
- Combine the SCI powder and SLSA in a heat-safe bowl.
- Add the Cocamidopropyl Betaine and gently heat to approximately 70–75°C while stirring until a thick paste forms.
- In a separate container, melt the stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, and shea butter.
- Add the melted ingredients into the surfactant paste and mix thoroughly.
- Add the kaolin clay and starch and mix until evenly incorporated.
- Add the glycerine and continue mixing.
- Allow the mixture to cool below 45°C.
- Add the panthenol, preservative, fragrance, and optional distilled water if needed.
- Mix thoroughly until uniform.
- Press firmly into moulds while the mixture is still warm.
- Leave to harden for 48–72 hours before unmoulding.
- Allow bars to dry for 5–7 days for maximum hardness.
Notes
- Target pH: 5–6
- If the mixture is crumbly, slightly increase Cocamidopropyl Betaine.
- If the bars are too soft, slightly increase starch or reduce liquid ingredients.
- Store bars in a dry area between uses to extend lifespan.
This formula produces a firm shaving bar with dense creamy lather, good cushion, and improved razor glide.
