Flop-Proof Melt & Pour Soap Frosting Recipe (No Lye)

If you want a beautiful soap frosting effect without working with lye, this melt and pour version is easy, beginner-friendly, and perfect for decorating cupcake soaps and soap tops.

Ingredients

  • 200 g white melt and pour soap base
  • 35 g cornflour / cornstarch
  • 5 g glycerine
  • 5–8 g soap-safe fragrance oil
  • Soap-safe mica or colourant as desired

Method

  1. Cut the melt and pour soap base into small cubes.
  2. Melt gently in the microwave using short bursts, or melt over a double boiler.
  3. Allow the melted soap to cool slightly for a minute or two.
  4. Add the cornflour / cornstarch a little at a time, stirring well after each addition.
  5. Add the glycerine and stir well.
  6. Add your fragrance oil and colour.
  7. Leave the mixture to cool until it starts thickening.
  8. Use a hand mixer or whisk to whip it until it becomes light, fluffy, and pipeable like frosting.
  9. Spoon into a piping bag fitted with a nozzle and pipe onto soap cupcakes or soap bars.
  10. Leave to set completely before packaging or handling.

Tips for Success

  • If the mixture is too runny, let it cool a little longer and whip again.
  • If it is still too soft, add a little more cornflour / cornstarch.
  • If it becomes too thick, warm it very slightly for a few seconds and stir again.
  • White melt and pour soap base gives the best frosting look.

This frosting is ideal for decorative soap cupcakes, loaf tops, and novelty soaps, and is a great option for anyone who wants a simple soap frosting without using lye.
