Solid Shampoo Bar for Dry & Damaged Hair

A gentle syndet shampoo bar designed for dry, damaged and brittle hair. It combines mild cleansing surfactants with conditioning and hair-care ingredients to leave the hair feeling clean, soft and manageable.

Ingredients

• Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI) — 55 g
• Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSa) — 10 g
• BTMS-50 — 8 g
• Cetyl Alcohol — 8 g
• Shea Butter — 5 g
• Glycerine — 5 g
• Hydrolysed Wheat Protein — 3 g
• Panthenol — 1 g
• Coconut Oil — 3 g
• Fragrance or Essential Oil — 1 g
• Vitamin E — 0.5 g
• Euxyl PE 9010 — 0.5 g

Equipment

• Digital scale
• Heat-resistant mixing bowls
• Double boiler
• Silicone spatula
• Shampoo-bar mould
• Gloves

Method

1. Wear gloves and a dust mask when handling powdered surfactants.
2. Weigh the SCI and SLSa into a heat-resistant bowl.
3. Mix the powders gently until evenly combined. Avoid creating dust.
4. In a separate container, combine the BTMS-50, cetyl alcohol, shea butter and coconut oil.
5. Heat in a double boiler on low heat until the solid ingredients have softened/melted.
6. Add the melted conditioning phase to the surfactant mixture.
7. Mix thoroughly while the mixture is warm.
8. Add the glycerine and continue mixing/kneading until a thick, uniform dough-like mixture forms.
9. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
10. Add the hydrolysed wheat protein, panthenol, vitamin E, fragrance or essential oil and Euxyl PE 9010.
11. Knead thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
12. Firmly press the mixture into the shampoo-bar mould. Compress it well to prevent cracks or air pockets.
13. Leave in the mould until completely cool and firm.
14. Remove carefully from the mould.
15. Allow the bar to dry and harden for 24–48 hours before packaging.

pH

For pH testing, prepare a 10% dilution by weighing 10 g of the finished shampoo bar and adding 90 g of distilled water.

Allow it to disperse thoroughly and measure the pH.

Target pH: 5.0–5.5

If the pH is outside the desired range, the formulation should be adjusted using an appropriate diluted acid or alkali solution and then retested.

How to Use

Wet your hair and the shampoo bar.

Rub the bar directly over wet hair or lather between your hands.

Massage the lather gently into the scalp and hair. Rinse thoroughly.

Repeat if necessary.

Allow the bar to dry completely between uses.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct water.

Use a draining soap dish or shampoo-bar container that allows excess water to escape.
