FACE BRIGHTENING TONER
Niacinamide & Alpha-Arbutin

INGREDIENTS
- Distilled Water — 89.4 g
- Niacinamide — 4.0 g
- Alpha-Arbutin — 1.0 g
- Glycerine — 3.0 g
- Panthenol — 1.0 g
- Euxyl PE 9010 — 0.8 g
- Sodium Citrate — 0.5 g
- Citric Acid — 0.3 g
Total: 100 g
Target final pH: 5.5
METHOD
Phase A — Water Phase
- Sanitise your work area, equipment, utensils and packaging.
- Weigh 89.4 g distilled water into your mixing vessel.
- Add 0.5 g sodium citrate and mix until completely dissolved.
- Add 3 g glycerine and mix.
- Add 1 g panthenol and mix until dissolved.
- Add 4 g niacinamide and mix until completely dissolved.
- Add 1 g alpha-arbutin and mix gently until completely dissolved.
Phase B — Acid
- Add 0.3 g citric acid gradually while mixing.
- Mix thoroughly until completely dissolved.
- Check the pH using a properly calibrated pH meter.
Phase C — Preservative
- Add 0.8 g Euxyl PE 9010.
- Mix thoroughly until the toner is completely uniform.
FINAL pH ADJUSTMENT
- Allow the toner to stand for approximately 10–15 minutes.
- Measure the pH again.
- The target is pH 5.5.
If the pH is above 5.5, prepare a 10% citric acid solution and add it drop by drop, mixing and checking the pH after each addition.
If the pH is below 5.5, use a suitably diluted sodium hydroxide solution to raise the pH very gradually.
- Once the pH reaches 5.5, mix thoroughly.
- Recheck the pH after approximately 15 minutes to confirm it remains at or very close to 5.5.
- Adjust the final weight to 100 g with distilled water if necessary.
- Mix gently and fill into your sanitised bottle.
10% CITRIC ACID SOLUTION
For final pH adjustment:
- Citric Acid — 10 g
- Distilled Water — 90 g
Mix until completely dissolved.
Only use the amount required to adjust the finished toner.

Helps improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and supports the skin barrier.
Alpha-Arbutin — 1%
Brightening active that helps improve the appearance of dark spots and uneven pigmentation.
Panthenol — 1%
Helps moisturise and soothe the skin.
Glycerine — 3%
Humectant that helps attract and retain moisture.
Sodium Citrate + Citric Acid
Form a citrate buffer system to help maintain the desired acidic pH.
Euxyl PE 9010 — 0.8%
Preservative for the water-based toner.
IMPORTANT – FACE BRIGHTENING TONER
The formula is designed around pH 5.5, but the actual final pH must still be measured with a calibrated pH meter. A formulation cannot reliably guarantee an exact pH of 5.5 without measurement because raw materials can vary.
For commercial production, conduct stability testing and preservative efficacy/challenge testing before selling the finished product.
