Phase A
- Wear gloves, eye protection, and a dust mask when handling SCI and SLSa.
- Combine the Stearic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol, Shea Butter, and BTMS-25 in a heatproof bowl.
- Heat over a double boiler to 70–75°C, stirring until completely melted.
Phase B
- Add the Cocamidopropyl Betaine and stir until smooth.
- Gradually add the SCI, mixing well after each addition.
- Add the SLSa and Disodium EDTA, mixing until a thick, uniform dough forms.
Cool Down
- Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool to below 40°C.
- Add the Euxyl PE 9010 and fragrance oil, mixing thoroughly until evenly incorporated.
Moulding
- Press the mixture firmly into silicone moulds, eliminating any air pockets.
- Allow the bars to cool completely before unmoulding.
- Leave the bars to harden for 24–48 hours before use.
Finished Product
- Rich, dense, creamy shaving lather
- Excellent razor glide
- Hard, long-lasting bar
- Mild, skin-friendly pH (approximately 5.0–5.5)
Formulation Notes
- Euxyl PE 9010 should be added below 40°C for best performance.
- Check the final pH and adjust if necessary to 5.0–5.5 using a dilute citric acid solution.
- If you want an even creamier, more stable lather, you can replace 2% SCI with 2% Kaolin Clay. This is a popular addition to shaving products because it enhances slip and razor glide without significantly reducing cleansing performance.
This is a balanced, beginner-friendly formulation suitable for facial shaving, head shaving, and body shaving, and is appropriate for small-scale production.
